Medtronic is looking for a dynamic, strategic Senior Principal Communications Specialist to join the Patient Monitoring Communications team. In this role, you will support global external communications with a focus on proactive, earned public relations. As a key team member, you will also be responsible for managing the strategic direction, development, and effective execution of the organization’s internal communications strategy for the U.S. commercial team.

This role reports directly to the Director, Patient Monitoring Communications with formal dotted line relationship to the VP, Patient Monitoring U.S. Sales.

This role can be based near any of our marquee locations including in Boulder, CO, or Minneapolis, MN, or can be remote within the U.S.

A Day in the Life
Managing U.S. Commercial Communications
Develops and executes the internal communications strategy for the U.S. Patient Monitoring commercial team, analyzes effectiveness of internal communications efforts, governs and improves communications processes
Leverages internal communications to convey messages to inform, align, strengthen trust and confidence, and engage commercial employees
Maintains strong relationships with senior leaders to support effective executive communications and provides counsel and coaching to ensure effective communication to employees
Helps build a culture reflective of Medtronic’s Mission and core values and drives the reputation of the company
Demonstrates strong skills to shape messages, create communication channels, develop strategic communication plans, and provide insights and information at both the strategic and tactical levels
Partners with regional commercial program manager to plan and implement internal meetings, such as All Hands calls, team webinars, etc., with a sustained focus on specific strategic business and communications objectives
Supports issue mitigation and change communications

Supporting External Communications
Partners with Director of Patient Monitoring Communications and our corporate communications team to create strategic recommendations and plans to proactively advance the goals of the Patient Monitoring business through public relations efforts
Manages the proactive outreach to key media stakeholders, including journalists and relevant influencers and manages incoming media requests under deadline
Leads the writing, editing, and approval of external communications materials, including event scripts, speeches, key documents and reports, press releases, media interviews, FAQs, and other external communications approaches
Conducts internal briefings to ensure alignment of external messages across audiences
Manages the internal review process for external communications materials
Develops, implements, and maintains appropriate metrics to evaluate impact and effectiveness of external communications

Must Haves
Bachelor’s degree and 10+ years of progressive responsibility in the communications field, in either a corporate environment or agency, or, advanced degree and 8+ years of experience

Nice to Have
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, or other associated field of study; post-graduate or professional degree
Experience in public relations
Solid track record and demonstrated results with media relation campaigns
Knowledge of social and digital media engagement
Strong written and interpersonal communications skills essential
Robust storytelling capabilities
Excellent stakeholder management and strategic communications counseling skills
Solid project and time management skills; must be able to manage multiple assignments simultaneously and shift focus adeptly
Ability to work independently and collaboratively with colleagues at all levels of the organization
Understanding of basic brand, marketing, and design principles
Problem-solving and negotiation skills
Ability to work with confidential and sensitive information
Ability to engage, brief, and manage third-party vendors
Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, as well as knowledge of industry-standard file types, such as PDF, JPEG, BITMAP, TIFF, etc. Experience with, Eloqua or other eMarketing platforms a plus
